We live in Oregon and it doesn't get excessively hot however there's a month or two in the mid year where the warmth and moistness get severe in the house. One thing is that I have heard specified on a couple of different models is that the fan gets water in the dish and spits it around. This is a highlight and not a bug ;). The unit is intended to pitch in reverse somewhat when appropriately mounted. Dampness expelled from the room gathers at the base. The fan sharpened steel is covered in elastic and its intended to suck water up and shower it on the evaporator curls. This encourages some precooling of the outside air. It definitely expands productivity. I would not penetrate channel gaps, as other individuals have said.
